As a college student, I thought I was destined to go into consulting or healthcare. But then the Dean of my business school recommended that I apply for a GEICO Achievement Award. Quite frankly, I didn't think I'd be selected, as I knew nothing about GEICO or insurance at that time. To my surprise, I not only received the award, but I was also offered an internship with the company during my senior year.

It was during the internship I realized that GEICO was a great company. I learned about the organization and got to know many wonderful people. The internship gave me a very good idea of the many different career opportunities in insurance, and ultimately helped me pick GEICO as my company of choice.

Today, I am an Assistant Vice-President with responsibility for 1,400 employees and over 1 million customers. In just a few short months, I'll celebrate 12 years with GEICO. This all would not have happened if it wasn't for the GEICO Achievement Award program. It opened my eyes to a world of opportunities. I'm very grateful.

I heard about GEICO's Achievement Award from my business school. After learning more about the program and seeing that I qualified for it, I called my parents and they encouraged me to apply. When I found out that I was chosen to receive the award, I felt extremely honored.

The award money helped me tremendously during my senior year – I used most of it to pay for books and the rest went toward tuition. The company also hosted a dinner on campus to present me with the award. It was there that I met several GEICO associates, and heard more about the company and its many career opportunities.

The next fall, when I was applying for jobs, the application process with GEICO was exciting and enjoyable, as I had already made personal connections. I am grateful that I was a recipient of the Achievement Award - and I am proud to call GEICO my company.

I was extremely excited and honored! GEICO held a breakfast ceremony to present the award, during which I was able to meet several company officers and managers. I asked them for business cards, in hopes of inquiring about an internship opportunity.

During my senior year, I interned at GEICO. Applying the knowledge and tools gained through college, I worked on "real world" projects, while interacting with incredible mentors and associates. I saw first-hand the many career opportunities the company had to offer, and was eventually accepted into the Emerging Leaders Program upon graduation. I truly believe that I may not be in this position today if it hadn't been for the Achievement Award.
