GEICO actuaries do more than crunch numbers!
As an actuary at GEICO, you'll work on teams to develop products, give presentations, analyze industry trends, write business proposals and interact with associates from across the company. Entry-level candidates are generally hired as Actuarial Assistants within one of two key areas, Pricing or Reserving – both departments are located within our corporate office in the Washington, D.C. area
- As a pricing actuary, you'll assist in setting the rates in various states for our insurance products, such as automobile, motorcycle, RV, boat or ATV.
- In reserving, you'll help forecast and determine the amount of money GEICO needs to hold on to ("in reserve") in order to make payments on existing and future claims.
Supporting the exam process
As you may know, an important part of an actuary's professional development involves advancing through a series of exams offered by the Casualty Actuarial Society. As an Actuarial Assistant at GEICO you will receive exam support, including:
- Up to 115 paid study hours per exam
- Opportunities to take review courses
- Onsite quiet rooms for studying
- Financial support for CAS exams and VEE courses
- An exam coordinator to assist with exam processes
Ideal candidates will have
- A Bachelor's degree in math, economics, actuarial science or related field
- At least a 3.0 overall GPA
- SAT score of at least 600 in math and 500 in other sections or equivalent standardized test score.
- Very good quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and MS Office skills
- Some computer programming knowledge, such as Access, SAS, SQL or other programming language
- Commitment to take and pass actuarial exams; preference is given to candidates who have passed at least one exam
- Desire to live in the Washington, D.C. area
