Claims Representative

Analytical. Empathic. Helpful. Organized.

Superior claims handling is one of the most important services that GEICO offers. Associates working in claims are there when it matters most – assisting customers after accidents, natural disasters or other losses. If you're looking for a career that makes a difference in people's lives, claims may be the right fit for you!

At GEICO, we hire new associates into two different claims positions: Claims Representatives and Liability Claims Representatives. Both positions offer extensive training, and teach the fundamentals of insurance claims and how to handle loss reports.

As a Claims Representative, you will:

  • Start the claims process when customers call to report a claim.
  • Verify accident facts, determine policy coverage and review insurance contracts.
  • Help settle claims where there are no injuries and everyone agrees to the accident details.

As a Liability Claims Representative, you will:

  • Investigate more complex claims that involve liability disputes.
  • Verify accident facts and review supporting case files.
  • Interact with policyholders, claimants, medical insurers and body shops.

Our Claims department offers interesting and extensive career paths, and associates are eligible for performance-based promotions. Top performers in claims are rewarded with an annual trip and other gifts.

Some offices may hire directly into higher-level claims liability positions and/or offer leadership development programs with a focus in claims.

Claims Representative, Liability Claims Department

My role as a claims adjuster is to investigate accident claims to the best of my ability with the information I have available and make an intelligent liability decision.

My role as a claims adjuster is to investigate accident claims to the best of my ability with the information I have available and make an intelligent liability decision. My duties include:

  • taking recorded statements from both drivers and any witnesses to the accident to obtain each person's version of the loss;
  • obtaining evidence that may aid in the investigation (police reports, vehicle damage photos, scene photos, etc.);
  • scheduling appointments for photos/estimates;
  • advising of applicable coverage (property/rental/medical) and deductible;
  • reviewing medical treatment notes to ensure injuries being claimed are accident related;
  • paying related medical bills;
  • being familiar with the auto insurance rules and regulations for the states handled by my region; and
  • reviewing/paying lost wage claims.

My actions and those of the other associates working in the Liability Claims Department have a direct impact on customer retention. For example, being involved in an accident can be an upsetting and traumatic experience. By providing our policyholders with excellent customer service, we can take some of that stress away. When a policyholder calls GEICO to begin the claims process, they experience first-hand how important great customer service is. It is important to keep the customer informed and handle the claim promptly and correctly. And, that's exactly what we do. For many customers, it is during the claims process when they recognize how important their insurance coverage really is.

There are so many great things about working for GEICO! First and foremost are the great benefits - including Healthcare Benefits, Profit Sharing, and Tuition Reimbursement. GEICO also provides excellent job training. Combine the job training with the self-development courses and tuition reimbursement offered, and you have all the tools you need to succeed. Overall, GEICO's career path in claims is exceptional!

I enjoy the investigation aspect of my job and helping my customers get through the claims process. I also like that management has an open door policy and everyone is very "approachable". Overall, there's a very caring atmosphere where I work and I have enjoyed my time here at GEICO very much.

Telephone Claims Adjuster II, Claims Department

The department I work for investigates claims to determine liability (who is at fault). We handle bodily injury claims for our policyholders as well as for other claimants.

The department I work for investigates claims to determine liability (who is at fault). We handle bodily injury claims for our policyholders as well as for other claimants. The service handling of each claim affects GEICO. If our customer feels we handled the claim well, we will retain an insured or gain a policy from the claimant.

Specifically, I investigate claims and determine who is at fault. I also handle injury claims. We take recorded statements about the accident from the parties involved; including details about the accident and injuries/treatment they have received or plan to receive. We have to follow-up with the injured parties to obtain the medical documentation for review, so we can properly handle their injury claim.

There are a lot of good things about working for GEICO. The benefits are very good and it is located close to my home. But best of all, my fellow associates, supervisors, and managers are great people to work with and to work for.

I really love helping our customers. Being in an accident is very stressful and anything we can do to make the claims experience a little easier for our customer is great.
